About Me

Hi! I’m Catherine, a South African born and bred in beautiful Cape Town. I studied Economics at the University of Cape Town, graduating in 2022 with a Masters degree in Applied Economics. I spent two years working for an impact investment fund in the U.S., before starting to work as a data specialist at Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator, a nonprofit organisation based in South Africa that works with government and private sector partners to reduce youth unemployment in the country.

I really enjoy analysing data, and using numbers to tell stories. My job as a data specialist means that I spend a lot of time doing this, but I wanted a space where I could share other insights and analyses that I do in my spare time. That’s what this blog is for! Here you can find data-rich answers to questions on poverty and unemployment, food insecurity, the environment and education in South Africa. My aim is to provide clear, accurate data analysis, highlighting both what the data can tell us, and what it can’t tell us about a topic.

I’m so glad you are here, and I’d love to hear from you. Let’s connect - click on the link below to connect with me on LinkedIn!
